Argentina icon, Lionel Messi confirmed his departure from Barcelona after giving an emotional farewell speech which saw the record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner break down at the start, in what was a heartbreaking moment for football fans around the globe.

The footballing world was shocked on Thursday, after Barcelona announced that the 34-year-old would not continue with the club and would leave after spending his entire professional career with them despite agreeing to a new five-year deal with the club, which included the player taking a massive 50 percent pay cut.

Messi admitted that he he was convinced to stay at Barcelona as this was his home. The striker revealed that he wanted to remain at the Nou Camp and that was his plan, though he has had to say goodbye after spending his entire life in Spain.

The footballing superstar has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, amid reports emerging that the Ligue 1 giants have already contacted his representatives over a potential move. The player for his confirmed that a move to France might be a possibility, though nothing is confirmed at the moment.

“Paris Saint-Germain is a possibility, yes. At the moment nothing is confirmed, I received lot of calls after Barcelona statement. We’re talking about it," he said.

The 34-year-old leaves the club as the greatest player in their illustrious history, scoring a staggering 672 goals in all competitions and helping them win 35 trophies during his time at the Nou Camp.
