Argentina icon, Lionel Messi is considered to be the greatest player in the history of the sport, with the striker creating/breaking numerous records during his professional career so far, including winning seven Ballon d'Or awards.

Messi has a number of individual records to his name at the moment but he recently lost the assist record he set at former club, Barcelona has been broken. One of Messi's greatest ever years fell exactly a decade ago, as the Argentinian notched 36 assists in 2011, and unsurprisingly he picked up the Ballon d'Or award that year for his efforts.

36 assists in a single calendar seems insurmountable, but that number has been surpassed by Ajax's, Dusan Tadic who recorded his 37th assist of the calendar year in his side's 2-1 defeat to AZ Alkmaar.

The Serbian star has established himself as one of the Dutch side's most important player ever since joining them from Southampton in 2018 with the former Premier League player excelling in Holland.

The 33-year-old still has time to add to his tally considering that Ajax still have to face Feyenoord and Fortuna Sittard before the end of the year meaning that he could set a record which will be very difficult to beat in the near future.
