Argentina icon, Lionel Messi has opened up on the prospect of facing rivals, Brazil and good friend, Neymar in the final of the 2021 Copa America, revealing that the "game will be very close and very difficult".

Argentina booked their place in the final of the Copa America after overcoming Colombia 3-2 on penalties in the semi-final, with the game ending 1-1 in normal time. Brazil meanwhile just scraped past Peru 1-0 in their semi-final, which will pit the two rivals against each other.

Messi for his part has stated that all his focus will be on winning his first major trophy for his country.

"We are both in the final. It's going to be the final we were all hoping for, it's going to be very close, very difficult. We achieved our first objective, which was to play every game. Now we will try to win the final," he said post the semi-final.

"I know Neymar said it because he's a good guy, it's the final we were all waiting for. We've achieved the first goal. We have a goalkeeper [Emi Martinez] who is a fantastic player."

The 34-year-old for his part has been his usual brilliant self in front of goal for the La Albiceleste, scoring four goals and registering three assists so far - with the striker leading the race to win the Golden Boot award.
