Argentina and Barcelona talisman, Lionel Messi is widely considered as the greatest player in the history of the sport, with the striker winning numerous professional and individual honours during his career so far, including a record six Ballon d'Or awards.

Messi has now added another honour to his illustrious career, with the 33-year-old winning his eight career Pichichi Trophy after ending the 2020/21 LaLiga season with 30 league goals - the most by any player in the recently concluded campaign.

The Pichichi Trophy – awarded to La Liga’s highest scorer each season has been dominated by Messi in recent times with the strikers win this time around being his fifth successive one. The Argentinian won the award despite missing the last game of the season with the player himself asking to miss Barcelona's game against Eibar.

Despite Barcelona's poor season, Messi has been his usual brilliant self in front of goal, scoring 38 goals in all competitions, of which 30 have come in the league. The Argentinian’s 30 league goals means he has now scored 30+ goals in league action in four of the last five seasons with his all competitions tally of 38 goals improving on his 2019/20 total of 31.
