Argentina icon, Lionel Messi is widely considered to be the greatest player in the history of the sport, with the striker winning numerous professional and individual honours so far, including a record seven Ballon d'Or awards.

Messi is known to be a family man and the 34-year-old has already flown back to Argentina to celebrate Christmas with his family. The Paris Saint-Germain playmaker flew home from France in a private jet with team-mates and compatriots Angel di Maria, Mauro Icardi, Leandro Paredes and their families.

As per Mundo Deportivo, Messi's plane landed in Rosario less than 24 hours after PSG drew 1-1 with Lorient in Ligue 1 thanks to Icardi’s late equaliser, with the club set to be next in action against Vannes in the French Cup on 3rd January.

PSG completed arguably the biggest signing in football history when they signed the 34-year-old from Barcelona on a free transfer, though the player has taken time to settle in Paris and is yet to display the form that has made him the most feared player in the planet over the past decade or so.

Messi for his part has so far scored six goals and registered five assists in 16 appearances in all competitions for PSG this season, with the club well placed in Ligue 1 as they are 13 points clear of second placed Nice at the top of the table.

The French giants are also scheduled to play Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League after finishing second in their group behind Manchester City.
