Lionel Messi is expected to sign new contract with FC Barcelona later this week, and bring an end to the uncertainty surrounding his future at the Catalan club.
Messi's previous contract with Barcelona expired at the end of June, and the Argentina has been a free agent ever since.
Barcelona, though, have been optimistic Messi will put pen to paper on a new contract at the club, and the deal would have already been announced if not for Blaugrana's crippling financial situation. It was revealed that Barcelona have to cut costs drastically and balance the books before they can re-sign Messi.
Sky Sports now report that Messi can be announced as a Barcelona player again later this week, with the club's budget said to have been significantly improved after La Liga agreed a €2.7 billion investment deal with private equity firm CVC Capital Partners.
SPORT had reported earlier this week that Messi has reached an agreement with Barcelona over a new five-year contract with 50% pay cut.
Meanwhile, Messi will return to Barcelona training after signing the new contract, and the club hope to have the Argentina available for their Joan Gamper trophy final clash with Juventus on August 9, 1:00 am IST.
