Footballing icon, Lionel Messi gave the Paris Saint-Germain management a scare after missing the club's collective training session on Thursday due to a muscle problem, while striker Kylian Mbappe was ruled out of their Ligue 1 clash against champions, Lille on Friday.

PSG manager, Mauricio Pochettino reiterated that he is yet to decide whether to name Messi in their squad for the Lille game, claiming that, "they would assess the superstar individually".

"This morning, he had a small muscle problem, so as a precaution he practiced individually. We will assess him individually to see if he can be involved (against Lille)," he told a news conference on Thursday.

Meanwhile what would hurt Pochettino further is the absence of Mbappe, who is one of the best strikers in the world, with the Frenchman suffering from a ear, nose and throat infection. The Ligue 1 giants will also be without influential midfielder, Marco Verratti who has been ruled out for four weeks after suffering a hip muscle injury during their 0-0 draw with Marseille last Sunday.

PSG have enjoyed a brilliant start to the league season, topping the table with 28 points from 11 games, seven ahead of second placed, Lens. Despite missing some top players, Pochettino has enough firepower in his squad to give Lille a run for their money on the pitch.
