Chelsea star Jorginho is reportedly set to beat N'Golo Kante and Kevin De Bruyne to UEFA's Player of the Year award.

The prestigious honour which will be handed out at the Champions League draw on Thursday sees Jorginho pitted against his Blues' team-mate Kante and Manchester City playmaker De Bruyne.

The likes of Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski, who won it last year, were both overlooked, and according to Tuttomercatoweb, Jorginho is set to scoop the award this year.

The 29-year-old played a key role in both Chelsea's Champions League triumph and Italy's Euro 2020 glory in the summer. He is also fourth favourite to win the Ballon d'Or behind Messi, Lewandowski and Kante.

Rio Ferdinand believes Jorginho has become an even better player since Thomas Tuchel arrived at Stamford Bridge.

"Jorginho has gone to a new level [under Tuchel]," he said. "Since Tuchel’s come, he’s [Jorginho] been a different player for me. The way he plays, he passes the ball forward now, so much more. And he plays a little bit higher at times, so his ball now is into the final third to hurt teams, so there’s a difference."

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Jorginho is one of the many first-team stars Chelsea want to tie down to a new long-term contract, and the club chiefs are expected to meet with the Italian's representatives in the comings months to propose a new contract.
