Chelsea and Italy midfielder Jorginho has backed his club teammate N'Golo Kante and Man City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne to win the 2021 Ballon d'Or.
Jorginho, having won the Champions League with Chelsea and the Euro 2020 with Italy, is seen as a favourite to claim the coveted individual award this year. The 29-year-old is, however, not the outright favourite, with the race wide open this year.
Lionel Messi, who is chasing a record-extending seventh Ballon d'Or, Robert Lewandowski, who would arguably have won the award if it had not been cancelled last year, and Karim Benzema, who has been impressive for both Real Madrid and France, are also among the leading contenders for the award this year.
Jorginho, though, believes Kante and De Bruyne deserve to win the Ballon d'Or this year. "I would vote in the Ballon d’Or for Kante or De Bruyne," Jorginho said, as quoted by Express.co.uk.
He added: "Talking to other defenders from big teams, De Bruyne requires much more attention than players that win every year the prize."
Although both De Bruyne and Kante have made it to the 30-man shortlist for 2021 Ballon d'Or, they are not seen as favourites and are unlikely to win the award.
