Jorge Mendes has claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo deserves to win the Ballon d'Or this year "more than he ever has".
The 37-year-old has enjoyed an incredible year of football - winning the Coppa Italia at Juventus and finishing as the top scorer in the Serie A. He also claimed the top spot as the highest international goalscorer of all time in the summer.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner returned to Manchester United has continued his fine form in England with five goals in six games. And Mendes believes no one other than Ronaldo deserves to win the Ballon d'Or this year.
"The numbers do the talking and they should be enough," the super agent said. "He scored 115 goals for Portugal, becoming the world record holder with the national teams. He is the best scorer in the history of football.
"It is a decisive thing and means he must win the trophy because he continues to prove that he is the best player in history...
"Do not forget that Cristiano was the top scorer in Serie A, he was the top scorer in the last European championships, he has the record for the most goals in the Champions League and is the only player to have won everything in three different and very competitive countries like Italy, Spain and England.
"All of this together makes him absolutely unique. From my point of view, the Golden Ball has only one name: Cristiano Ronaldo. He’s never deserved it more than this year."
Lionel Messi has been touted as the favourite to lift his seventh Ballon d'Or this year, while Chelsea and Italy star Jorginho has also been named as one of the leading candidates to swoop the award.
