Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta reportedly wants Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta to replace Ronald Koeman at Camp Nou.

Presidential elections are set to take place at Barcelona this month with Laporta a favourite to win, and according to RAC1, has lined up Arteta as a potential successor to Koeman.

Laporta has given the Dutchman his full backing this season, but the report claims that if he decides to leave the LaLiga giants, Arteta is one of the top names on the potential managerial shortlist.

The Gunners boss has impressed since taking over at the Emirates, leading them to the FA Cup and then the Community Shield during his first few months in charge. It has been a rough ride for the north London side this term, but Arteta has been repeatedly praised for the way he has looked to change the club's culture.

Laporta is keen on Arteta, who is a former La Masia graduate, and spent more than two years working with former Barca boss and current Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola.

Koeman was appointed in the summer, but Barcelona have struggled this season, on and off the field. The summer was rocked with the news of Lionel Messi putting in a transfer request, and the Blagaurana find themselves playing catch-up on the LaLiga table, too.

Laporta is also trying to sign Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin in the summer. The Spaniard is a former Barca player, who joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old, and has gone on to make more than 200 appearances for the club. His contract runs until June 2023, but reports have claimed that he might be open to a switch when the transfer window opens.
