Jack Grealish is set to become the first footballer to cost £100m in English football history as he inches closer to a move to Manchester City from Aston Villa.

According to reports, the 25-year-old will be officially announced as a City player over the next 24 hours after undergoing a medical and agreeing to a five-year contract.

The Daily Mail report that Pep Guardiola's side have smashed the British transfer record after activating a clause a Grealish's contract. Rivals Manchester United held the record earlier after paying Juventus £89m for Paul Pogba in 2016.

The England international will be Guardiola's first summer signing, but isn't expected to be his last. Grealish is a boyhood Villa fan and the club were reportedly willing to "smash their pay ceiling" to keep him at the club by offering him a £200,000-per-week deal.

Villa have been extremely active this summer, bringing in a number of new faces, including Ashley Young from Inter, Leon Bailey from Bayer Leverkusen, and Danny Ings from Southampton, and are plotting further signings, including getting United defender Axel Tuanzebe on loan.
