Sevilla star, Ivan Rakitic has revealed that he joked with his former Barcelona team-mate, Lionel Messi over the Europa League, claiming that he told the Argentinian that he has "won a trophy you will never have."

Rakitic won the Europa League in 2014 in what was his final season with Sevilla before he ultimately made the move to the Nou Camp, where he spent six years post which he returned back to Sevilla.

"I was speaking to Messi and said, 'You have won it all, have scored all these goals', but I told him, I have won a trophy you'll never have. You'll never win the Europa League!," he told LaLiga TV.

The 32-year-old enjoyed a trophy-laden time during his career at Barcelona with the Croatian international winning four LaLiga titles, four Copa del Rey's and the 2015 UEFA Champions League, with the midfielder insisting that the side he played for "earned their success".

"Those guys weren't given anything. They earned their success. It's no coincidence those guys have won it all. Every player had a part to play. Each of them did things their own way, but it's always to win. We said in Berlin ahead of the Champions League final, 'With everyone together, no one will beat us.''

Rakitic has once again become a pivotal figure at Sevilla following his return, making 35 appearances in all competitions so far, during which he has netted five goals.
