Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Leandro Paredes has opened up about his clash with national teammate and FC Barcelona captain Lionel Messi during the Champions League round-of-16 clash between the two sides earlier this season.

The two players appeared to have had heated exchange of words during PSG's 4-1 win over Barcelona at Camp Nou in the first-leg.

Speaking to TyC Sports, Paredes played down what happened between him and Messi during the game as he stated it was 'a normal heated moment during a game'.

"It was nothing," the midfielder told the Argentine news outlet as quoted by Sport. "It was the usual nonsense that happens on the pitch. It was a normal heated moment during a game."

"I'm sure he didn't like a challenge, he gave me some kicks as well. But it happens with everyone and in every game. I have even got wound up with my brothers, with my dad, with lifelong friends."

Paredes also stated he would like Sergio Aguero, who is set to leave Manchester City at the end of the season, to join PSG in the summer. He said: "We always like to play with the best players and Kun is one of them. First of all, I hope he decides what's best for him and, if that's with us, he will be welcome."
