Manchester United legend, Wayne Rooney has opened up on the return of his former team-mate, Cristiano Ronaldo to Old Trafford, revealing that "it's very exciting for everyone at the club" and that the strikers arrival will benefit the youngsters coming through.

Ronaldo looked set to join Manchester City, but the Red Devils beat their rivals to his signature after he signaled his intention to leave Juventus. He is set to join the side soon after agreeing to personal terms and completion of a medical.

"For the fans it will be great to see Cristiano back, it’s very exciting for everyone at the club. And for his teammates, too, for some of those young lads in the dressing room, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, some of these young lads who have grown up watching him play at Old Trafford," Rooney said to talkSPORT.

"For them it would be a massive help, I’m sure."

Reports have stated that the 36-year-old will become the highest paid player in the Premier League, and will earn a staggering £480,000-a-week. Ronaldo who broke through during his first stint with United between 2003 and 2009, made 292 appearances for the Red Devils, scoring 118 goals and helping them win three league titles, one FA Cup and the 2008 Champions League trophy.
