Barcelona starlet, Pedri has expressed his happiness at being called up to the Spain national squad, while playing down comparisons to Spanish legend, Andres Iniesta - claiming that, "It’s an honour to be compared to Andres Iniesta."
Pedri received his maiden call-up in March for the start of the 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign and having represented Spain at every level from Under-17 to Under-21, he could make his senior debut soon.
“I have to be Pedri. It’s an honour to be compared to Andres Iniesta. From the first day they’ve treated me very well. Knowing Jordi [Alba], Busi [Sergio Busquets] and the U21 teammates makes everything easier. I like Luis Enrique’s style of play a lot," he said as quoted by Goal.
"I hope to learn and adapt well to contribute as much as possible to the national team.”
The 18-year-old who moved to Barcelona from Las Palmas in 2020, has enjoyed a brilliant debut season in midfield for the Catalan giants, making 42 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and registering six assists so far.
The Spanish national team are placed in Group B of the 2022 UEFA qualifying competition, along with Sweden, Kosovo, Greece, Georgia and Estonia, and will play three games in the current international window to kick off their campaign.
