Lionel Messi said it was a special title win for him as FC Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao 4-0 to win the Copa del Rey title, which was also the Argentine's first trophy as the club captain.
After a goalless first half, Blaugrana scored four goals in the span of 12 second-half minutes to thrash Athletic Club, with Messi bagging the final two. Antoine Griezmann opened the cards on the hour mark before Frenkie de Jong doubled Barcelona's lead in the 63rd minute.
Messi scored his first goal in the 68th minute, and, four minutes later, the Argentine found the back of the net for the second time in the match and sealed Barca's victory.
Speaking to Barça TV after the match, Messi admitted 'it's a very special Copa for me'. "It was a really difficult Copa to win," the 33-year-old said, as quoted by Sport. "We had to suffer in a lot of the games. It's always nice to win a trophy. I am really happy for this group of players because they deserved some happiness.
"It's really special to be the captain of this club, where I have spent my whole life, and it's a really special Copa (to win). It's a very special Copa for me, to be able to lift it."
