The 2020/21 edition of the Indian Super League (ISL) came to an end last Saturday, withMumbai City FC beating ATK Mohun Bagan 2-1 in the final to win their maiden league title. While there were a number of brilliant performers over the course of the season, we take a look at the overall history of the league and the five players who have registered the most assists in the league.
1. Hugo Boumous (Mumbai City FC) - 24 assists
Hugo Boumous has played for FC Goa and Mumbai City FC in the ISL during his career so far and he has been arguably the best creative player in the history of the competition. The 25-year-old has registered a staggering 24 assists in just 58 games, which is an incredible number and just goes to show what an asset he has been for his clubs and the league in general.
2. Brandon Fernandes (FC Goa) - 18 assists
A player who can change the game in a moment due to his skill on the ball, Brandon Fernandes has been with FC Goa since 2017 and the Indian player with the best numbers when it comes to assists in recent times. The 26-year-old played a key role in Goa winning the 2019 Super Cup, scoring three goals in the competition, including one in the final.
3. Marcelo Pereira (ATK Mohun Bagan) - 18 assists
A veteran in the ISL circuit, Marcelo Pereira is not only prolific in front of goal but also comes high in the assists list as seen by the 18 he has provided to his fellow team-mates during his career in the competition. The Brazilian is on loan at ATK Mohun Bagan from Odisha FC and was perhaps unfortunate not to lead his side to the title this season.
4. Ferran Corominas (FC Goa) - 16 assists
The all-time record goalscorer in the history of the ISL, Ferran Corominas has been an inspired signing for FC Goa, not only scoring goals in droves but also providing his fellow team-mates with scoring opportunities. Despite his excellence on the field, the 38-year-old decided against extending his contract with the club and will be sorely missed.
5. Roy Krishna (ATK Mohun Bagan) - 14 assists
Roy Krishna was without doubt the player of the recently concluded season and richly deserved the Golden Ball award for his contributions in attack, with the striker not only scoring goals but also creating a number of chances for his team-mates. The 33-year-old has been at ATK Mohun Bagan for two seasons now and has established himself as a key player for them.
