The signing of Hugo Boumous by ATK Mohun Bagan for a record transfer fee created waves in the world of Indian football, with the sum understood to be the highest ever spent on a player. Here, we take a look at five most expensive signings in Indian Super League (ISL) history.

1. Hugo Boumous (Mumbai City FC to ATK Mohun Bagan) - ₹2 Cr

ATK Mohun Bagan created waves when they signed Hugo Boumous from Mumbai City FC for a record transfer fee, with the amount understood to be in the region of ₹2 Cr.

The 25-year-old has been one of the most successful foreigners to play in the ISL, with the midfielder playing a key role in FC Goa and Mumbai winning titles in 2019/20 and 2020/21.

Such was his performances were for Goa in 2019/20 that he scored a staggering 11 goals in 15 games, which led him to being awarded the Golden Ball award.

2. Hugo Boumous (FC Goa to Mumbai City FC) - ₹1.5 Cr

The Frenchman also holds the second spot on this list as Mumbai City FC splurged 1.5 Cr to sign him from FC Goa in 2020/21. 2022. He was one of the many players that signed for the club when Sergio Lobera took over the reigns at Mumbai.

Boumous was brilliant in his single season at Mumbai, scoring three goals and playing a key role in their title win. It came as a surprise that they let him go considering that he was a very valuable player for the side.

3. Liston Colaco (Hyderabad FC to ATK Mohun Bagan) - ₹1 Cr

Impressed by Liston Colaco's performances for Hyderabad FC, ATK Mohun Bagan did not think twice before spending ₹1 Cr to sign the youngster in April, 2021.

The amount remains the most expensive transfer fee ever for an Indian player.

4. Michael Soosairaj (Jamshedpur FC to ATK Mohun Bagan) - ₹90 Lakhs

Named as the I-League Midfielder of the Year for the 2017/18 season during his time with Chennai City, Michael Soosairaj soon moved to Jamshedpur FC - for whom too he was brilliant.

His performances attracted the interest of ATK Mohun Bagan who snapped him up for ₹90 Lakhs in the 2019/20 season.

5. Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem (ATK Mohun Bagan to FC Goa) - ₹85 Lakhs

Widely considered as one of the best young players in India, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem has played for a number of ISL clubs during his career so far. He signed for FC Goa from ATK Mohun Bagan for 85 lakhs, which is the most ever for an Indian goalkeeper.

He has quickly established himself as FC Goa's number one goalkeeper, and was brilliant for the team in the ISL as well as the AFC Champions League.
