Indian national football team head coach, Igor Stimac is all set to be handed an one-year extension as per renowned India sports journalist and 420 Grams panelist, Jaydeep Basu - with the All India Football Federation (AIFF) technical committee expected to announce the decision on Monday.
Stimac who was appointed as India's head coach on 15 May, 2019 was recently handed a three-month extension which led to speculation that his time with the Blue Tigers was coming to and, following some mediocre performances by his side.
The Croatian was in charge during India's 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers during which they were placed in Group E, managing to finish third in the table by registering seven points despite winning just one game. This meant that while they failed to make a dent in qualification for the 2022 World Cup, they did manage to secure qualification for the third round of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.
Stimac for his part has a poor record as head coach of India, winning just two out of the 15 games he has been in charge of, drawing six, losing seven and registering a win percentage of 13.3. However, the players have described him in glowing terms and it will be interesting to see how the future of the side pans out in the next one year under the Croatian's stewardship.
