The 2022 World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup second round qualifiers concluded on June 15, with 12 teams from eight groups qualifying to the third round of the World Cup qualifiers.

The India national team were placed in Group E, where they managed to finish third behind Qatar and Oman, managing to register seven points despite winning only one game, while registering four draws and losing three games.

While the Blue Tigers managed to qualify for the third round of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup, what would be worrying for head coach, Igor Stimac was that they managed to score only six goals during the qualifiers - coming in 28th out of the 40 countries that played.

Asian football giants, Japan not surprisingly came out on top by netting 46 goals, followed by Iran (34), China (30), Australia (28), with United Arab Emirates (23) rounding up the top five.
