India's footballing superstar and national team skipper, Sunil Chhetri has confirmed that he has recovered from COVID-19, days after testing positive for the virus that ruled him out of the international friendlies against Oman and the UAE.

Chhetri confirmed the development on the eve of India's second international friendly against UAE, a game which the Blue Tigers went on to lose 6-0 on Monday.

"Got an all-clear from the tests and couldn't be happier to get back on the pitch (I missed it bad!). Grateful for all the kind messages that came in, wishing me a speedy recovery. Importantly, I'd want every one to stay safe and mask up at all times," Chhetri said on social networking site, Twitter.

The 36-year-old who is considered to be one of the greatest footballers to come from India, was also recently shortlisted by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) to be one among 13 strikers for the three positions in the all-time AFC Cup XI by fans.

Chhetri who is the second highest goal-scorer in international football among active players has played in four editions of the AFC Cup and has 18 goals, and will be needed to return in top form by his country if they are to challenge for trophies in the near future.
