Colombia star, Yerry Mina has reiterated that he bears no ill will towards his former Barcelona team-mate, Lionel Messi after the duo clashed during their semi-final clash in the recently concluded 2021 Copa America.

Mina was heckled by both Messi and Argentina goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez before and after his crucial penalty miss in the shoot-out in the semi-final with the Argentine duo having some choice words for the Everton defender.

La Albiceleste eventually prevailed on penalties to progress to the final, where they beat hosts, Brazil to win their first Copa America title since 1993.

"What happened with Leo is something that can happen at any moment, this is football. Life goes round in circles, it always gives you a second chance, but I am calm because I know that Leo is a great person," Mina said to the press during a charity event in his hometown of Guachene.

"I met him at Barcelona and I thank him for the support that he gave me, I will always respect him. I admire Messi for what he is, at that time we were both defending our National Team. If I could give my life for my national team, I would give it, but what happened was left [out on the pitch], there's nothing to it."

The Colombian defender played alongside Messi at the Nou Camp for one season, during which he won the LaLiga title and the Copa del Rey honour.
