FC Barcelona's new signing this summer Memphis Depay has expressed his disappointment as he missed out on the chance to meet Lionel Messi while at the club.

Depay completed his move to Barcelona this summer on a free transfer as he ran down his deal at Lyon.

The Dutchman had mentioned it was his dream to play with Messi, but as luck would have it, as Depay entered the doors at Barcelona, Messi left and joined PSG.

Both players also could not meet due to their committments to their national teams for the Euro 2020 and Copa America.

Depay told El Periodico that he does regret not being able to meet Messi. He also expressed extreme happiness to reunite with his former national team manager Ronald Koeman.

"I didn’t even get to know [Messi]. He came late to pre-season because of the break after the Copa America and I couldn’t even say hello to him.

"I know what [Koeman] wants from me. I know what I have to do, there’s a chemistry between us. That’s very important."

Depay also spoke about Barcelona's dressing room and hailed his new colleagues as he said, "Everyone has been very nice and they have made it easy for me. Pique has helped me a lot because his English is good. With [Jordi] Alba I also have a lot of fun. Of course, Frenkie and Dest also, because I already knew them. It’s a nice dressing room."
