Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has opened up on the future of club talisman, Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp and the contract negotiations that are currently underway with the record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner.

Messi's future at Barcelona has been a source of huge speculation considering that his current contract expires at the end of June, with the player yet to agree to new terms with the club. He has been linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City, though nothing has been made official from either the clubs in question or the player himself.

Laporta for his part is keen to hold on to their greatest ever player as he knows what Messi brings to the table, both on and off the field.

"The renewal isn’t at an advanced stage. It’s okay, I believe that Leo’s boots will stay on the Camp Nou’s pitch. I can’t contemplate a no from Messi; he wants to stay. We’re doing what we can but there’s no need to seduce him," he said while attending a presentation of a documentary of the Argentinian star.

The 33-year-old who is currently on international duty with Argentina, whom he is leading at the Copa America has remained mum on his future - instead opting to concentrate on helping his country win what will be his first major international trophy with them.
