The Football Players Association of India (FPAI) on Wednesday announced the Indian Football Awards for the 2019-20 & 2020-21 campaigns at an annual meeting, with the players body awarding footballers past and present for their contribution to Indian football.

India's biggest footballing superstar and Bengaluru FC striker, Sunil Chhetri won the FPAI Indian Player of the Year award for the 2019/20 season, which is the third time that he has bagged the honour so far in his career.

ATK Mohun Bagan goalkeeper, Arindam Bhattacharya meanwhile picked up the same award for the 2020/21 season for his excellent performances in goal. During the meeting the players' body also honoured former greats and legends such as Savio Medeira, Bruno Coutinho, Derrick Pereira, Brahmanand Sankhwalkar, Clifford Reyes Miranda and Samir Naik, for their contribution to the sport.

The players won the awards according to the number of votes they received from their colleagues in the I-League & Indian Super League (ISL). The voting for the 2020-21 season was conducted online due to the COVID -19 protocols which the players had to follow. The winner of the award received the maximum number of votes in their category.
