Georginio Wijnaldum left Liverpool earlier this month as a free agent to sign a three-year deal with Paris Saint-Germain.
The Dutchman was one of the key players in Jurgen Klopp's squad, and the Reds' boss is extremely eager to replace him before the start of the new Premier League season. Wijnaldum became a mainstay in the Liverpool squad and helped the Merseyside club to European and Premier League glory.
The club reportedly have their eye on a few potential names who could fill the gap, and we've decided to take a closer look at the candidates who could bolster Liverpool's midfield.
Here are four potential replacements for Wijnaldum at Liverpool.
Saul has been repeatedly linked with a move to Anfield this summer, with Klopp keen on bringing in the 26-year-old. However, the Spaniard was left at home for Euro 2020, and has been touted with an exit from Atletico Madrid. Manchester United are also interested in Saul, who could also provide cover at left-back, if needed.
Neves has starred during Wolves’ recent rise and return to prominence in the Premier League. The Portugal international has proven himself as a fine ball-winner, and his exceptional passing range would provide a different dimension to Klopp's midfield. Liverpool previously brought in Diogo Jota from Wolves, who could convince his former teammate to make the switch to Anfield this summer.
The Brighton man has been touted as Wijnaldum's successor on more than one ocassion. He has developed into one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Premier League, and has been long-linked with a switch to Liverpool and Arsenal. He has two years remaining on his current contract, with the Seagulls slapping a £40m price tag on the 24-year-old.
Liverpool are one of the many clubs interested in the Lyon star, according to ESPN. The Ligue 1 giants are willing to listen to offers for the Frenchman, who is a long-term target of Klopp. Aouar was heavily linked with a switch to Arsenal last summer, but the two clubs could not agree on a price for the 23-year-old.
