Former Real Madrid star Raul Albiol has claimed that LaLiga need to see his former club bring Kylian Mbappe to Spain after the league as a whole lost both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi and Ronaldo dominated Spanish football for the longest time, but are now playing their trade elsewhere, with Ronaldo returning to Manchester United after 12 years, while Messi joined Paris Saint-Germain earlier this summer.

And Albiol believes the Spanish top-flight needs to make up for their loss and insisted that Mbappe will end up at Madrid at some stage.

When asked if Mbappe would be a welcome addition in LaLiga, Albiol told AS: "I would like to see him in the league, he is a great player, world-class and I think players like this are needed in the Spanish League after the departure of Cristiano and Messi - it is important that they come. And important for Real Madrid, which is a team that I have played for."

Mbappe was touted with a move to Madrid throughout the summer window but a transfer failed to materialise after Los Blancos pulled out of negotiations. The LaLiga giants made a late move to try and bring the Frenchman to Spain but saw an opening bid of £137m turned down. They then returned with an improved bid of £145m plus £9m in add-ons but that was also turned down.

According to French outlet L'Equipe, Madrid's offer to sign Mbappe expired at 5pm UK time. The report added that Madrid refused to increase their bid and walked away from any potential deal for the 22-year-old. PSG are desperate to hold on to Mbappe, who is out of contract next summer.
