Fernandinho has claimed Manchester City had ' a good, considerable chance' of securing Cristiano Ronaldo's services in the recently shut summer transfer window.

Ronaldo was linked with a move to Man City in the summer transfer window before Man Utd sealed a sensational return to Old Trafford for the five-time Ballon d'Or winner.

Ronaldo, who had spent six years at Man Utd between 2003 and 2009, returned to the Premier League side 12 years after he left them for Real Madrid. The 36-year-old has been impressive for the Red Devils since his return, scoring three goals in the two appearances he has so far made.

Fernandinho, though, claims 'there was considerable chance' of Ronaldo joining the defending Premier League champions. "I think there was a good, considerable chance. I think his agent was here at the club renewing the contracts of Ederson, Ruben Dias, seeing the situation of Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo," the Man City midfielder told ESPN.

"Obviously, if you're there at the table, you can talk about everything and every possible player."

He added: "I think that a lot of expectations were also raised with the possibility of him coming here.

"No doubt this ends up affecting not only the fans, but also the people inside the club. But in the end, things didn't work out, he didn't close the deal, and ended up going to the red side of town. Life goes on."
