FC Barcelona will not be sending young midfielder Riqui Puig out on a loan deal in January, according to reliable football journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Puig, who has found playing minutes hard to come by at Barcelona under Ronald Koeman this season, has already been linked with a loan move away from the club in the upcoming winter transfer window.

A host of top European clubs, including AC Milan, Manchester City and Arsenal have all, at some point in recent months and weeks, been linked with a move for the Spaniard, who had impressed for the Catalan outfit last season.

However, Barcelona seems to be not willing to let Puig leave the club in January. According to Romano, the LaLiga giants will instead trigger a clause that will extend his contract with Blaugrana till 2023. It has also been claimed that Barcelona do not want Puig to leave the club at all.

However, it remains to be seen if Puig will be given assurances over playing time should he be not allowed to leave the club in January, with the player having featured in just five games for the Catalan outfit so far this season, all of which were as a substitute.
