Paris Saint-Germain superstar, Lionel Messi and manager, Mauricio Pochettino have come in for major criticism from fans on social media with the Argentina icon being labelled a "fraud" following PSG's elimination at the hands of Real Madrid in the round of 16 second leg of the Champions League on Wednesday.

PSG once again failed to achieve their target of European glory after Madrid overcame a two-goal deficit to eventually progress to the quarter-finals on a 3-2 aggregate. This result came as a shock to many considering that the French giants had one of the best transfer windows in recent times, brining in a number of top stars.

"Psg before signing Messi: 2020- Final, 2021- Semi final. Psg after signing Messi: 2022- R16. This guy's actually taking them backwards," one user Tweeted, while another said, "Messi’s PK miss in the first leg of this fixture is the reason why PSG are out in the R16."

"Messi cost PSG a place in the quarter final, don't get it twisted," another user added.

PSG's manager, Pochettino came in for some heavy beating from fans with one pointing out, "Mauricio Pochettino has to be the greatest fraud in the history of football coaches," while another wrote, "Pochettino is an absolute fraud. Should be nowhere near any job where winning is an expectation."

This loss might be the final nail in the coffin for the Argentina boss at the club, and while Messi remains untouchable, it will be interesting to see what the club management decide to do come the summer.
