Fans have taken to social media to mock Cristiano Ronaldo following his penalty miss for Manchester United during their FA Cup fourth-round clash with Middlesbrough on Friday.

The 37-year-old stepped up to take the spot kick after Paul Pogba was brought down by Anfernee Dijksteel in the 20th minute.

However, the forward fluffed his lines and sent his shot wide of the post, leaving United fans shocked at the miss.

Former United man Roy Keane who was in the ITV studio alongside Ian Wright said: "Obviously, the biggest shock is Ronaldo. Can we criticise him? Of course we can, he’s got to hit the target.”

Wright added: “You’re not expecting him to miss the whole target. I think he’s tried to be very precise I think, especially with the way the goalie’s started. You just want to get that on target. That was a massive shock.”

United fans took to social media to express their dismay over the missed penalty while rival fans did not miss the chance to make fun of Ronaldo.

Jadon Sancho scored for United soon after however Boro equalised in the second half and managed to hold on until full-time. The match went into penalties where Ralf Rangnick's side lost the shootout 7-8 and were dumped out of the competition.
