Defending World Cup champions, France were knocked out of the 2020 European Championship by Switzerland 5-4 on penalties, in a pulsating encounter that saw six goals being scored in normal time.

It was the Swiss who took the lead early on in the first half courtesy of a striker from Haris Seferovic, but after a poor opening 45 minutes, France hit back after Karim Benzema scored a brace in three minutes to give them the upper hand.

The match looked all but over after Paul Pogba scored France's third goal in the 75th minute, but the resilient Swiss players showed that they should not be taken lightly by getting two goals within normal time to take the game into extra time.

With no goals coming in extra time, it was in the penalty shootout where the match would be decided and it was here that Kylian Mbappe failed to turn up as his spot-kick was saved by Yann Sommer which gave Switzerland a famous win on the night.

Here, we take a look at the best Twitter reactions from the game.

The well deserved win for Switzerland means that they will now face Spain in the quarter-finals on Friday, 2 July at Saint Petersburg Stadium, St Petersburg.
