Spain national team head coach, Luis Enrique has lavished praise on goalkeeper, Unai Simon following his heroics which helped the La Roja beat Switzerland 3-1 on penalties in the quarter-final of the 2020 European Championship on Friday.

Denis Zakaria's own goal in the eighth minute gave Spain the lead early on, but Switzerland hit back in the second half courtesy of a strike from Xherdan Shaqiri. However, the game eventually went to a penalty shootout after the teams could not be separated in extra-time and it was here that Simon stole the show.

Simon saved two penalties during the shootout, thereby helping Spain reach their first ever semi-final since 2012.

"Unai has already shown against Croatia what he is made of, but I was very happy to see him enjoy himself, and to be the hero. I said from the beginning, we were one of the eight teams that we can win it, that it without exaggeration and now we are into the final four," Enrique said post the game.

Not many tipped Spain to progress into the latter stages of the 2020 Euro at the start of the tournament, and they will have a chance to prove them wrong and progress to the final when they face Italy in the semi-final on Tuesday, 6 July at the Wembley Stadium in London.
