Former Borussia Dortmund striker Jurgen Kohler has claimed Erling Haaland is "not yet a world-class player" and that Kylian Mbappe has more potential despite the Norwegian's goal-scoring heroics.

Haaland and Mbappe are two of the most exciting stars in world football today, and have been touted to follow in the steps of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. Both players have been the center of immense transfer speculation and have been linked to all the major clubs in Europe.

However, Kohler believes Haaland still has a ways to go before he can be considered world-class. He told Ruhr Nachrichten: "He's not yet a world-class player. He's a top striker and has all the skills to do so, but he still has to prove that.

"He's missing that certain extra class out of nowhere. At 21 he has already come so far. That is extraordinary. I am sure that he will always find tools so that he cannot be stopped. With experience comes world class."

Mbappe, on the other hand, already boasts of an impressive trophy cabinet, having bagged four Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint-Germain and the 2018 World Cup with France. The 22-year-old has scored 132 goals in just 171 appearances for PSG, with 42 of those efforts coming last season.

And Kohler admitted that the Frenchman slightly edges out his fellow star at present. The 1990 World Cup winner added: "Kylian Mbappe has the greatest potential. I see him more as a world-class footballer, because he doesn't just rely on speed. What does he do? Short hooks, short ball control - Mbappe doesn't do anything rash."
