Football transfer expert, Fabrizio Romano has opened up on rumours linking Argentina icon, Lionel Messi with a return to former club, Barcelona - revealing that "he doesn't see the striker returning back to the Nou Camp in the summer".

Rumours are circulating that Messi is not happy with life at Paris Saint-Germain and might look to end his association with them early, despite having a two-year contract with the Ligue 1 giants.

The 34-year-old has struggled to recapture the form that made him the best player in the world at Paris so far and was recently criticised by a number of fans and pundits for his poor performance during their Champions League round of 16 exit at the hands of Real Madrid.

However, according to Romano a return to Barcelona seems unlikely at the moment considering that the LaLiga giants are still struggling financially and might not be able to meet his contract terms.

“At this moment, there’s absolutely nothing. To be honest, I don’t see him returning to Barcelona this summer, but let’s see," he said in a chat with Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE.

Messi's current contract with PSG runs till the summer of 2023 and it is unlikely that he will look to make a move before that and despite the criticism aimed at him, he has still managed to score seven goals and register 11 assists in 25 appearances in all competitions.
