Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone managed to reverse a curse on Saturday during their 1-0 win over Barcelona, with the Argentinian beating the Catalan giants for the first time in his career in LaLiga.
Before the game, Simeone had never managed to beat Lionel Messi's Barcelona after Marc-Andre ter Stegen's mistake cost the Catalan giants the game with Yannick Carrasco dribbling past him to eventually the score the only goal of the game in stoppage time of the first half.
Simeone's side now have a nine point advantage over their rivals moving to joint top at the table with 20 points from eight games, with Simeone's side understood to be the favourites to win their first title since the 2013/14 season.
The Argentinian for his part hailed his side post the win, claiming that it is the players who deserve all the praise as they play for each other.
“The team is playing very well right now. I have been saying it for some time and it gives us confidence to keep working hard. When there is a link between the ideas and work on the training ground and the execution on the pitch, that is great," he told Marca.
"These players give their all for the team and for each other. Now we need to continue gathering this energy and competing well, as we have very important game on Wednesday.”
Simeone will hope that his side continues in the same vein when they host Lokomotiv Moscow in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, the 25th of November.
