Real Madrid defender Dani Carvajal has revealed they are surprised to see Barcelona in the situation they are in, as the Catalan outfit languish at ninth in the La Liga table.
Barcelona have had a stuttering start to the 20/21 campaign, and poor performances and results have seen Ronald Koeman get the sack, with club legend Xavi Hernandez brought in as the new manager.
"As [Carlo Ancelotti] said, we are surprised to see Barcelona so far behind [in the title race], but nobody can rule them out for any trophy. Respect is essential," Carvajal told Marca.
When asked if he has ruled Barcelona out of the title race, he said: "Far from it. When [Zinedine] Zidane arrived we were 12 points behind Barcelona and we finished one point behind them, pushing them until the final game."
Carvajal also commented on the arrival of Xavi Hernandez as the manager of Barcelona, stating: "A change for sure. The arrival of a figure like Xavi for Barcelona is going to fill them with hope. Although he is a rival I wish him all the luck in the world, [but] not against us [laughs]."
