Footballing superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo took to social networking site, Instagram to thank his fans after becoming the first person in the world to reach 400 million followers on the social media platform.

Ronaldo who is arguably the most popular sports athlete in the globe, currently has 404 million followers on Instagram and he took the opportunity to post a video for his supporters which included his famous 'Siuuu' celebration while wearing a £2,000 grey cashmere Dior jumper. 

The 37-year-old also reiterated that he is targeting another '100 and 200 million' followers on the social media site in a 30-second video which he released on Monday afternoon. 

"Hi guys, 400 million. Wow, what a number. Now I can say Siuuu! Well it's fantastic, what a moment for me. Without you this wouldn't be possible. So from the bottom of my heart I have to say thank you. Keep going like that!," he said in the post.

"I will share my life with you, all the things with you because you deserve it. So thank you very much. Let's do it for more 100 million, 200 million - thank you guys!"

The five-time Ballon d'Or award winner who returned to Manchester United last summer is 92 million followers ahead of the second most-followed person on Instagram, Kylie Jenner and is 96 million followers ahead of long-term rival, Lionel Messi who is placed third on the list.
