Cristiano Ronaldo was scammed out of £250,000 by a travel agent after trusting her with his credit card details.
As reported by Portuguese daily Jornal de Noticias via the Mirror, the 53-year-old agent, Maria Silva, also reportedly scammed Ronaldo's agent, Jorge Mendes, out of more than £14,000 and former Manchester United winger Nani out of more than £1,500.
The report also stated that her crimes culminated in her getting a four-year suspended prison sentence by a court in Porto. The report added that the €288,000 she scammed Ronaldo out of linked to a number of trips he never made between February 2007 and July 2010.
More than 200 trips from Portugal and other European countries were included, as well as flights to Africa and USA. Silva reportedly asked clients to transfer money to her personal account rather than the official travel agency one.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner provided the police with a statement after flying to Portugal to meet with his lawyer Carlos Osorio de Castro, but was not present at the trial.
