Manchester United created headlines last week after they announced that they had reached an agreement with footballing superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo and Juventus over a return of the striker to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo will return back to the club where he spent six seasons between 2003 to 2009, winning eight major trophies during that time plus the Ballon d'Or award as the world's best men's player in 2008.

Here, we take a look at how United could line up with the five-time Ballon d'Or award winner.

1. GK - David de Gea

David de Gea's form over the past couple of seasons has come under major criticism, but there is no doubt that the Spaniard is the best goalkeeper at the club and he once again showed why he is so important for the club after single-handedly keeping United in the game during their 1-0 win over Wolves on Sunday.

The 30-year-old has reiterated that he has no plans to leave the Red Devils and it will be interesting to see whether he can rediscover his best form as the season progresses.

2. LB - Luke Shaw

Luke Shaw is playing some of the best football of his career, which at one point looked like it would have ended early due to form and fitness issues. The England international has always been talented, and after working on his fitness and overall play - he has ensured that he is the first choice left-back for both club and country.

3. CB - Harry Maguire

Many were surprised when United paid a staggering £80million for Harry Maguire in 2019, and while the fee is exorbitant, there is no doubt that the centre-back has put on impressive performances for the club so far.

Maguire has established himself as the leader of the defence, with the England international a key member of the squad and one who will expected to remain at Old Trafford for the foreseeable future.

4. CB - Raphael Varane

United managed somewhat of a coup after they managed to lure Raphael Varane to Old Trafford from Real Madrid. The Frenchman who is widely considered to be one of the best defenders of his generation, has won everything there is to win in the sport and judging from his debut performance - he has already settled well in England.

5. RB - Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Known for his defensive awareness and tackling ability, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is another youngster that United have signed as they plan for the long-term future of the club.

While he is brilliant when it comes to defending, he struggles in attack - though at 23-years-old, he has all the time and ability to improve.

6. CDM - Scott McTominay

Scott McTominay came through United's youth academy, and in recent times has been a regular in the squad, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer known to be a big fan of the midfielder.

The 24-year-old might not be the most flashiest player on the pitch, but he makes up for it with his energy and willingness to work hard for the team.

7. CM - Paul Pogba

United signed Paul Pogba in 2016 for a then world record fee amid great expectations and it is safe to say that the Frenchman has failed to live up to his huge price-tag so far.

The midfielder has enjoyed a mixed six seasons at Old Trafford, though there is no doubt that he is a match-winner on his day.

8. CAM - Bruno Fernandes

Arguably no player since Eric Cantona has had such an immediate impact for United like Bruno Fernandes has had, with the midfielder becoming the talisman for the club during his time in Manchester.

The Portugal playmaker has produced some astounding numbers for the Red Devils, scoring 43 goals in just 83 appearances - a staggering number for a midfielder.

9. LW - Marcus Rashford

Marcus Rashford has been tipped to become a future United great, and the player has already put in some brilliant performances at a tender young age of 23.

It will be interesting to see whether he will be able to continue his good form as his career progresses, considering that he is susceptible to injuries.

10. RW - Jadon Sancho

The Red Devils finally got their man in Jadon Sancho this summer after expressing an interest in signing him for the past couple of seasons. The winger is considered as one of the most exciting young players in the world and if he can continue the form he displayed in Germany, then the club have got a superstar in their ranks.
