Manchester United superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo took to social networking site, Instagram to announce on Thursday that he and his partner Spanish model Georgina Rodriguez, are expecting twins.

The announcement means that the five-time Ballon d'Or award winner will become a father to six children -- two of whom, Eva and Mateo, are also twins aged four. Ronaldo and Rodriguez, 27, have a three-year-old daughter Alana together, and Ronaldo also has an 11-year-old son named Cristiano Jr.

"Delighted to announce we are expecting twins. Our hearts are full of love - we can't wait to meet you," Ronaldo wrote on Instagram.

The 36-year-old is considered to be one of the greatest footballers in the history of sport, winning numerous professional and individual honours for club and country so far. Ronaldo recently created headlines when he returned back to Old Trafford earlier in the summer after a gap of 12 years, with many believing that he could inspire United to a trophy or two come the end of the season.

The striker has lived up to his reputation after returning, enjoying a brilliant start to the season so far, scoring six games in nine appearances in all competitions. Despite his brilliance, United have had a poor start to the season, finding themselves placed seventh in the Premier League table with 14 points from nine games.

The Red Devils were recently humiliated 5-0 by Liverpool and they will look to Ronaldo to lead from the front when they face Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, 30 October.
