Premier League giants, Chelsea have reportedly entered the race to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona in the summer, should the record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner decide to not sign a new contract with the Catalan giants.
Messi's future at the Nou Camp has come under major speculation following his decision to leave earlier in the summer, something which has come under the microscope considering that the striker's contract with the club expires in the summer of 2021.
Messi is yet to extend his contract with the Catalan giants and now Spanish football expert, Guillem Balague has revealed that Chelsea are "in the equation" should should the 33-year-old decide to end his 20-year association with the club.
It has been reported that Chelsea might be buoyed by the fact that Messi would come for free and that they would only need to sort out on how to afford his massive wages, though Manchester City are still considered the favourites to land the superstar in the summer.
Messi continues to remain the club's most important player and is key if the Catalan giants are to challenge for honours this season. The Argentinian has not looked at his best this campaign, but he has still managed to score six goals in 11 appearances so far.
