Lionel Messi's home debut for PSG was pretty dry as he was substituted by coach Mauricio Pochettino against Lyon with the Parisians still looking for the winning goal.
Pochettino brought on Achraf Hakimi in place of Messi with 15 minutes to go in the game and as he walked off the pitch, Messi was seen talking to the manager with a puzzled reaction.
The Argentine maestro is yet to get going for the French club as he has now gone three consecutive appearances without a goal contribution.
Messi struck the woodwork with a brilliant curling free-kick in the first half, but apart from that, there wasn't much to speak about his performance.
Pochettino decided to change things and subbed Messi off in the 76th minute as he brought on Achraf Hakimi, a right-back, to replace him.
Eventually, Icardi scored in the last seconds to secure the win for PSG but that wasn't the agenda anymore, especially after Messi's substitution and reaction.
Fans on social media website Twitter were also left scratching their heads at Pochettino's decision and there were some remarkable reactions from Messi fans as well as the football fraternity on Twitter in general. Some Ronaldo fans too were obviously seen bringing in comparisons.
Here are some of the best tweet reactions to the incident:
It's unbelievable, but the last time Lionel Messi was subbed off in a league game before this was way back on February 16, 2008 when Frank Rijkaard led Barcelona against Real Zaragoza.
The game was level 1-1 at that time and he subbed Messi for Bojan in the 79th minute.
