The Ligue 1 is growing in stature as a league, with a number of great players plying their trade in France. As we head into the business end of the 2021/22 season, there have been some who have been prolific in front of goal as compared to the others.

Here, we take a look at the race for the Golden Boot award.

1. Wissam Ben Yedder (AS Monaco) - 14 goals

Wissam Ben Yedder remains one of the more underrated strikers in current day football, as he has been prolific in front of goal as seen during his time at Toulouse, Sevilla and now Monaco.

The Frenchman who has won the Golden Boot award in the Ligue 1 in the past, is on course to add another such honour to his tally as he has been in brilliant form this season.

2. Kylian Mbappe (PSG) - 12 goals

Kylian Mbappe has established himself as the best young striker in the world courtesy of his performances for both club and country in the recent past and he has continued his form this season too.

The 23-year-old has without doubt been Paris Saint-Germain's best player despite the presence of Lionel Messi and Neymar in their squad, with the striker netting 12 goals so far, while also providing nine assists.

3. Gaetan Laborde (Rennes, Montpellier) - 12 goals


Another French striker who has impressed this season has been Gaetan Laborde, who has been been key for Montpellier this season, scoring 12 goals, while also registering five assists so far.

That Montpellier find themselves placed ninth in the Ligue 1 table is due to the performances of the 27-year-old and they will hope that he continues his good run as they eye a top-six finish.

4. Martin Terrier (Rennes) - 12 goals


Martin Terrier plays more as a second striker on the pitch and it is ability to find spaces makes him a dangerous player as seen by the 12 goals he has scored so far.

The 24-year-old has played for Lyon in the past and if he continues in the same vein, then there is no doubt that he will catch they eye of top European clubs in the future.

5. Jonathan David (Lille) - 12 goals


Another player who primarily plays as a second striker, Jonathan David is known for his ability to find space on the pitch and for his lightning quick speed.

The Lille is only 22-years-old and as he gains more experience, there is no doubt that he will become even more deadly in front of goal.
