FC Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman reportedly asked the club to sign Romelu Lukaku, but the Catalan outfit ruled out a move for the Inter Milan striker after looking into its possibility, according to ESport3 [via ESPN].

Barcelona are looking for a player to replace Luis Suarez, who Koeman told is not part of his plans. Lautaro Martinez has been Barca's long-term target, but a deal for the Argentine looks unlikely to materialise this summer.

Lyon star Memphis Depay is another player who has been linked with a move to Barcelona. The Netherlands international has reportedly agreed personal terms with Barca, but, as Koeman himself revealed, they must sell players before they can bring new players to the team.

Koeman had also asked Barcelona to sign Lukaku, who has been impressive for Inter Milan, to add options to his attack - but the club eventually ruled out such a move as it did not seem viable to them in the current scenario.

Meanwhile, Barcelona are likely to begin the new season with the squad they have had with them now for the pre-season. However, they will still be hoping they can offload a few players and seal deals for a few of their targets and bolster the squad before the transfer window closes on October 5.
