The LaLiga giants host their club elections this weekend, March 7, as they look to appoint a new president following the departure of former incumbent Josep Maria Bartomeu earlier this week. Laporta is reportedly leading the race to win the election, and is being challenged by Victor Font and Antoni Frexia, to take over as new president of the club.
According to the Daily Mail, if he is elected, Laporta will try to bring Aguero to Barcelona as a statement signing in the summer. The Argentine is set to be a free agent at the end of the current season, and he could make the switch and play alongside his friend, Lionel Messi.
However, Pep Guardiola has insisted that Aguero remains an important part of his squad, despite the 30-year-old being out of action for most of this season. "He's going to help," said Guardiola. "We need him in this part of the season. There will be games that will be tight and difficult and we need Kun. He has a special talent and quality."
At a presidential debate, Laporta addressed Messi's situation. He said: "I have a great relationship with Leo and he will consider whatever proposal I make. I'm convinced that if the other candidates win, Messi will not remain at Barcelona."
