Barcelona president, Joan Laporta has dropped another hint that reiterates his confidence that star player, Lionel Messi will sign a contract extension soon, revealing that the "negotiations are progressing well".
Messi who is currently vacationing in Ibiza after leading Argentina to the 2021 Copa America title, is yet to return for Barcelona's pre-season training camp and it is understood that he will not return back unless he puts pen to paper on a new deal.
Laporta for his part has always expressed confidence that Messi will renew his contract soon and once again reiterated that the deal will be completed soon.
"Every night I have sweet dreams when I think of Messi. We are doing everything possible for him to stay here. The negotiations are progressing well. We are in the process and Messi wants to continue, we have to make him continue and he wants to stay," he said as per Diario AS.
It was recently reported that the 34-year-old had agree to a new five-year deal with the Catalan giants and has agreed to take a 50 percent pay cut, which would see him potentially end his career at the Nou Camp.
The striker continues to excel on the pitch and was his usual brilliant self in front of goal last season, scoring 38 goals in all competitions, of which 30 came in the LaLiga. His goalscoring exploits saw him win his eighth Pichichi trophy, which is a record for a player in the league's history.
