Barcelona shocked the footballing world last week when they announced that they would not offer Argentina icon, Lionel Messi a new deal and that their greatest ever player would leave the Nou Camp after 21 years,

Messi confirmed his departure in an emotional farewell press conference on Sunday and a number of the club's fans gathered outside the 34-year-old's house on Monday to get a last glimpse of the player who gave them so much joy.

“I feel devastated. To see a player that I have always followed, who is an example for me, to see him leave now brings me a lot of pain," said a fan, Christian Garcia.

Despite Messi agreeing to take a 50 percent pay cut in order to remain at the Nou Camp, the club were unable to finalize the deal due to LaLiga's salary cap rules and the club’s huge debts.

“I don’t think the club has done enough to make him stay, I think it was in the club’s hands to make him stay, beyond the money,” said Barca and Argentina fan Gonzalo Moreno.

Messi for his part has been heavily linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, with the Ligue 1 giants keen to sign the record six-time Ballon d'Or award winner - with it emerging that they have already launched a bid for the player, and have offered him a two-year contract offer with the option for a further year.
