Spanish giants, Barcelona have confirmed that their greatest ever player, Lionel Messi will give a farewell news conference on Sunday at noon CET at the Camp Nou, just hours before the Catalan giants play in the Joan Camper trophy.

The footballing world was shocked on Thursday, after Barcelona announced that the 34-year-old would not continue with the club and would leave after spending his entire professional career with them despite agreeing to a new five-year deal with the club, which included the player taking a massive 50 percent pay cut.

The Catalan giants financial problems meant that they could not stay within the salary cap set by the LaLiga authorities, when it came to the signing of Messi, with club president, Joan Laporta admitting that he was devastated by the recent developments.

"Leo wanted to stay, so he's not happy. We all wanted him to stay, but now, like us, he is facing the reality of what's happened. A reality that can't be changed," he said in a press conference on Friday.

Barcelona now will take the field without Messi against Juventus in the Joan Gamper trophy at the Johan Cruyff Stadium on Sunday. The annual Gamper trophy usually sees the club management present the squad for the upcoming season and welcome their new signings.
